Our Languages » European Languages

The linguistic diversity of the European continent is one of the cultural riches of the “Old World”.

Although it may seem that its many languages are a barrier between the different populations, these languages are a source of wealth, cultural curiosity, and open-mindedness.

Europe’s numerous languages open doors far beyond the borders of Europe.

With some 43 languages spoken on the European continent, the European Union counts “only” 11 official languages: German, French, English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Greek, Swedish, Dutch and Finnish.

THESE 11 LANGUAGES CAN BE GROUPED INTO 4 FAMILIES:

Romanic (French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese)

Germanic (German, English, Dutch, and Swedish)

Hellenic (Greek)

Finno-Hungarian (Finnish)

English: universal language par excellence, English is the official language of 45 countries around the world (2 of which are in Europe), a number which represents 508 million English-speaking people!

Europe’s linguistic wealth opens the continent’s doors to hundreds of countries beyond Europe!
